"We are Las Marias, a musical duo passionate about fusing the majesty of Baroque music with the richness and warmth of Latin culture."
- Las Marias
Las Marías emerged from a shared formative experience of its members, María Carolina Pardo (Colombia) and María Florencia Araujo (Argentina), who completed their master’s studies in Historische Interpretationspraxis at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main under the guidance of Petra Müllejans, Mayumi Hirasaki, and Kristin von der Goltz. From this common artistic exploration arose a project dedicated to establishing a genuine dialogue between European Baroque music and the sound traditions of Latin America. The duo’s identity is shaped by the fusion of the historical timbres of the 17th- and 18th-century violin and cello with the rhythmic and melodic textures of Latin American folklore, giving rise to a distinctive interpretative language.
Since its founding in 2022, the duo has pursued an active concert career in Frankfurt and in various cities across the state of Hesse, performing in venues dedicated to early and chamber music.
Alongside their collaborative work, both performers maintain an active practice as instrumentalists in the field of contemporary music, collaborating with a range of ensembles and chamber music projects. In parallel, they are engaged in teaching within their respective areas of specialization, combining pedagogical practice with independent concert activity.
The Las Marías project presents a contemporary approach to historical musical practice, in which stylistic precision coexists with an open engagement with other cultural expressions. In each performance, the duo invites the audience to embark on a journey that transcends historical periods and geographical boundaries, reaffirming the continued relevance of the dialogue between the sound worlds of Europe and Latin America.
